Don't be left in the dark on MDS and health care reform

District Education topics are crucial for your facility. Health care reform and MDS 3.0 will be featured at the IHCA ICAL July District Meeting and Education. Plus, voting for 2011 officers will take place. Sign up now!

This summer is a crucial time for education on two important topics. Those topics, health care reform and MDS 3.0, will be featured at the IHCA ICAL July District Meeting and Education. MDS 3.0 is expected to be implemented on October 1, and the new health care reform provisions are taking effect now and will continue through 2014.

Voting for 2011 District officers will also take place at the July meetings. If you are interested in running for a District office, contact your District president. (IHCA NE - Chris Wolf, IHCA SW - Diane Sarich, IHCA SE - Richard Curphey, ICAL NE - Leslie Nussle, ICAL SW - K'Lee Latham, ICAL SE - Beth Fleming

MDS 3.0 Review
Lisa Uhlenkamp, IHCA ICAL Director of Quality and Clinical Services, will provide an overview of the new MDS 3.0 assessment tool, including changes compared to the MDS 2.0 and the tool's shift in philosophical approach to assessment. She will also review the MDS 3.0 items with new completion requirements. In addition to nurses, MDS coordinators, activity professionals, dietary, social services, department heads, and administrators, CNAs and direct care workers are also invited to attend this session.

Health Care Reform Update 1: The Latest on Changes Affecting Your Facility
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) will have a far-reaching and ongoing impact on Medicare and Medicaid-participating providers. This will be the first of many updates IHCA ICAL will provide for its members. Every one will offer the latest information, procedures, documentation and regulations that apply to all of our members. Kelly Meyers will walk members through the latest information and resources released by CMS, AHCA/NCAL and others on health care reform components that affect your facility, staff and residents. Nurses, administrators, and certified assisted living managers can receive CEUs.
